Tonight I attended a meeting with the Columbus American Culinary Federation chapter. When I had first started school, our chefs mentioned going to the ACF meetings, but somewhere it got lost in translation that you did NOT have to be a member in order attend. You can't attend the 6pm board meeting, but the 7:30ish meeting that follows is open to anyone who wants to come.
Got a bunch of info on Ohio grown items from both Ohio Proud as well as Ohio MarketMaker. There was lots of good stuff on where to go to research and source products for your food service establishment, but the coolest thing was the demographics. On the demo page for MarketMaker, they showed how to get to the demographics, and right there in the dropdown was a way to display "Average Bread Consumption by Household" which showed population density. I geekgasmed.
In other news, our house will be blissfully quiet for the time being. Princess's "tea party" yesterday was insanity at best. Eight third graders for TheBoy's party last weekend was almost easier to weather...and they stayed overnight. The personalities of the four little girls that were here (in addition to Princess) were so polarizingly different that it was exhausting. I was so glad to see the day over.
And now, with both kids' birthdays out of the way, I can concentrate on the last few days of the Seafood term. What a quick eight weeks!

That's it, now I've done it. Wifey and I have now brought a girl into the world. I'm hoping not to spoil her, but the name Princess has already stuck. Part of me wanted another boy, mostly because, as my friend Shawn put it once, "When you have a boy, that's only one penis to worry about. When you have a girl, you have to wory about all the others!"

She wasn't SUPPOSED to show up until Saturday (we had another scheduled C-section like TheBoy had), but I suppose I jinxed that myself.
Before work today: "Okay honey, you did good. You stayed in until after your brother's birthday party Saturday. He would never have forgiven you for that. So, any time this week is just fine. Whenever you're ready."
Little did we realize that "whenever" was going to be tonight.
Wifey called me around 4PM stating that she was "having cramps" and she was going to call the doctor, and that I should, "stay close to a phone". Cell phone on. I sat with a coworker for all of a half an hour before, "Umm...they want me to come in and get checked out. Meet us at the hospital."
I get there around 5pm, she a little later, they hook her up to the machines, and sure enough, contractions! The nurses let us know that "this is not a drill" (as I said as I called everyone), and that it was happening tonight.
Thankfully, Wifey's regular OBGYN was on call, so she got her doctor (Dr. God) to take care of her. All went wonderful, we got into surgery at 8:45, and Sam came out at 9:14.
And there you have it: I have my little Princess. Okay, she's 8lbs, 7oz, and 21 inches of "little", but she's still dainty and pretty to us! Especially when you compare her to her brother who's 3 years old and nearly 45lbs thrown over your shoulder.
Now, I just need to get a shotgun to clean on the front porch before she turns 14...
