Have only a half-day at work today. TheBoy had "Meet the Teacher"...this morning. At 8am. WTH? What kind of school doesn't do this sort of thing at night? /shakeshead

With the move to the completely new neighborhood, this also means he's in a completely new elementary school. I had to be there. He's really, really nervous. It's causing problems at home where he's lashing out (shock, a child of mine with anger issues?) and I had a talk with him this morning. I related how tough it as when I moved elementary schools in 3rd grade. Didn't know anyone, didn't make friends quickly, and it was difficult to go to school for a bit.

Eventually, I got to make a couple friends in class. Made a couple more the next year. Then, more the next. In 7th grade, I got in touch with friends from the old school and had friends from my elementary. Our school district has a "Sixth Grade School" where all the elementary schools in the district dump their 5th graders. I told him he's going to have that same experience PLUS he'll still have some friends from his old elementary through Scouts.

So, we get to the school, and kids are milling about, parents are milling about, free donuts (pre-packaged, but I was hungry) and juice cups (Princes: "I don't like those donuts. Just juice."). We met the art teacher at the donut table, and she said, "Oh, you have Mrs. Caliph? You'll like her!" Her eyes lit up. This was to be repeated.

...................more later. I'm going home now.

Out of frustration in trying to repeatedly contact my Endocrinologist last week, I called my general practitioner to get another referral. I love this doctor, but his office staff sucks pondwater.

They called me back with having scheduled the appointment...for 2:30 on a Wednesday. On November 7th! I guess I'm stuck with this doctor and his wretched office staff in the meantime. Hopefully I can get the appointment moved at least to later in the day (so I won't miss work).

Further ickyness: I gotta go downtown to got here.

Spending the bandaid today was painful to say the least. Haven't blown that much money in a single day since we paid for the cruise for our honeymoon.

I have officially achieved fatherhood...

Yeah, yeah. Birth certificates, adding to the company insurance, buing diapers and formula without regard to how really HOT the girl at the checkout counter is, been there, done that. The real sign of fatherhood:

I went camping out in the yard last night with the boy. I was achy. I was tired (so was he as his post-church nap proved). I missed a normal bed. But no matter: Dad took the boy camping last night. Granted, he DID ask for the travel TV at one point before we went out, but still,

"We were MEN camping." "Yeah Daddy, mans camping!"
