As Erudi has just pointed out to me, I haven't posted in several days. "This guy never updates his blog!"

The reason for that -- as he is well aware -- is that I've had a ton of guild members over at my house this weekend.

  • Erudi
  • Steinbrecher
  • Littlebaby
  • Malkariss
  • Tinkerbella
    • Tink and LB's Mom
    • Tink and LB's Aunt
  • Melisande
    • Mel's husband
    • Mel's newborn baby
  • Shikaro
    • Shikaro & Mel's friend

This is the Columbus version of Eastvale Logging Camp. The weekend has been positively epic.

I made pizza all Friday night as people had the chance to meet each other and talk about entirely too much WoW. The geek factor was incredible. We watched Secret of NIHM, The Star Wars Holiday Special (O...M...G!), and then Blazing Saddles as part of "Pizza and Movie Night".

Saturday was our day at the zoo. I had been carefully plotting for an entire week about keeping LB's joining Tink and Malk on the trip. We actually were considering having one of the goofy things we'd be doing was calling LB randomly over the weekend. I did my best to play up to Erudi's statement of "d00d! We should still totally call LB!" I think it worked as Saturday morning I said, "OK, come outside and see The Ultrasecret Guest." Surprised, yes, he was.  :)

Sunday Erudi came to church with us at MIL and FIL's church. Complete first exposure for him of an Orthodox service. It's too bad we ran into a day where their sermon was almost a damage control thing following a foul-up over financing their building plans for a new church. He rambled a lot during the message. Wifey and I both were kinda glazing over at several points.

After that though, we headed back home, and grouped up with the rest of the gathering members. I grilled up a couple of London broil slabs and we ate heartily. Amid our food comas, we then headed out for an epic afternoon of bowling. Several great shots during that (which I'll post later). Still not satisfied with the mad dash of the weekend, we went back home again, wound down, had a quick bite to eat, and then we went off to see [Terminator Salvation]. Epic. Seriously epic.

Today is Memorial Day, and we're again having people over. LB, Tink, Malk, and their clan are heading back home to NC (Malk still has school tomorrow). Burgers, hot dogs, and the rest of the picnic fare are on the menu...along with the rest of the mayhem.

This has been a crazy, fun, exciting weekend. Sure, a couple people ended up backing out, but this was beyond cool. Great turnout, and I expect it will only get better in the years to come.

Guide me Lord toward the path that you've laid out for me. Grant me the wisdom to see it and accept it, and grant me the strength to walk it.

Last night, we spent over an hour and a half at the car dealership looking over our options. Unless we find a really sweet deal in getting a Kia, we're probably going to end up starting up a lease to pay of the existing van. We looked at other options, but dude-guy even got us into a six year lease and still the payments were out of our league.

That's not to say we can really afFord the the "deal" we got on the van. As it turns out, to pay out our previous lease, start up a new one (with crappy credit), the overage we had on miles, and we're paying only $100 less than what we paid previously. Add to the fact we're paying the same mortgage payment PLUS $70 (!@#$ PMI), and we're only saving $30. Now, true, our taxes should be a bit less, but it's not going to help THAT much.

On our way back from the dealership, Wifey told me of something that happened to her in the last couple days. As she was waking up a couple mornings ago, still trying to drift back to sleep, but thinking of A Way Out of our current situation, she heard clear and crisp one word. Sell. It was that morning she called my in-laws' real estate agent. The coincidence that this really nice, helpful agent who Mom & Dad who've been dealing all along happens to deal with "quick sells; where the house is at or near foreclosure" is still enough to make me chuckle.

So in light of all of this, it struck me as I went through my normal morning prayers, and at the point I put in my normal personal devotions, I changed it a little:

Guide us Lord toward the path that you've laid out for us. Grant us the wisdom to see it and accept it, and grant us the strength to walk it.

All along I've been praying for a direction in my career path. The situation has since escalated to what's necessary for the whole family.

Time to redirect the focus of the prayers.

In other news, Karin finally made a decision, just not when. A guildie made a post praising the guild management for handling everything so well while Karin was in New Zealand, and Karin responded thusly:

Darias and everyone else did a fantastic job, and I intend to resume as a guild leader as soon as my near future is settled. With this last semester behind me and my field trip finally done, I'm doing some job hunting. Depending on what I end up doing, I could be away from home for weeks to months, or have a normal desk job. Geology jobs are all over the place, but fortunately it's a hot market right now. Just so there's not too much switching around, Darias can remain as guild leader until I find out for sure in the next week or two what my availability will be like.

Now that I read that again though, it still seems gray. I read it early this morning, and part of me got a tiny bit sad, so it blinded me to the fact he may still not take it due to the job hunt.

Also, I'm mildly pissed with myself. I've been leaving myself reminders for a week. I stayed up late last night to wash my favorite bath towel. And still, I forgot to bring my towel to work today.

This mortgage...is closed.

Yup, it's done. True, we didn't get near the amount of money we needed to pay off the van. True, we're getting a big chunk of change to catch EVERY bill we have up to date. True, the refi didn't do nearly what we need as far as lower payments.

As for if we're still going to have to sell the house and/or have Wifey go back to work? That part is unknown at the moment.

[sigh] My Guild is No More

Our leader got fried. People were jerks.

Supposedly, two former officers are going to reform it today, but we'll have to wait and see. Until then, it was REALLY quiet and lonely in the game last night.
