Last night we went to TheBoy's school-sponsored hayride. It was at the same place we've always gone to for our pumpkins, and included in the price for the hayride ($5) is a pumpkin. The school also provided free hot dogs, chips, marshmallows, and cider / Gatorade / water. Good fun, good hot dogs (zomg...did I really have five? six?), and four really nice pumpkins grace our front bench at home.
Now, as for the popcorn fiasco...I'm still pissed. Wifey said I was a lot calmer than she'd be, and that I handled it very diplomatically, but she was glad I was able to vent it out and let someone know that this was just wrong.
I had everything planned. It all seemed so simple. Now, we're gonna be totally nerfed on sales because we can only barely accomplish our Show & Deliver goals, and there's no way in hell we can do a Show & Sell. We're back down to basically only doing a Take Order season, and that really pisses me off because we had MUCH broader goals, but I couldn't order the amount of popcorn I wanted to.
Just sucks. Both for what I wanted to accomplish, and more importantly because I wanted to show the boys how much they could really accomplish.

This was one of those mornings where it's cool to be driving in a northerly and easterly direction. The sunrise was beautiful. (Was that a postitive, Pollyanna-like thought from Me?) Anyway, I have risen from the dead.
Actually, I managed to pull myself together last night (caffeinated and drugged and adrenalized) so that I could go to the den meeting. Officially we're two tiger dens. I've got eight boys (counting TheBoy and the other den leader has nine. His assistant is actually going to be our Cubmaster, and they're both already running one of the Weblos dens. The Cubmaster tried to see if any other parent was willing to step up to lead, but it just didn't seem like it was going to happen.
The meeting went well. I probably dropped five pounds and managed to sweat off most of the cold I have been fighting. We sang Old MacDonald off of cue cards that I made up (where I threw in a picture of a platypus; 17 faces all staring at me like, "What sound does THAT make???"), had a farm animal relay race (run down, pull out a picture, mimic the animal on the way back and your team guesses before the next guy runs), and then made plastic bag green houses.
To, here are the current standings with the employment race:
- QSI
- Had fantastic interview, got info on benefits, and then rep went silent on me.
- Sent her an email on Monday saying, "Am I still being considered (while other candidates are being interviewed perhaps), or have you decided that I'm not quite the right fit for QSI? I would appreciate a reply so I can properly evaluate my options as I investigate other opportunities."
- Recieved, "Last couple of weeks have been really crazy. You are still in consideration and I am still looking at options/clients where you might be a perfect fit. I would really appreciate your patience. Will call you sometime today for a follow up. Sorry about the delayed response."
- Still have yet to see either email or voice mail response (i.e. never got a that follow up call.)
- Has yet to ask for references
- Did I do that well on the basis interview alone?
- Synergy
- Have not had an interview with the company at all
- Have only given resume and sample of Powerpoint presentation of projects
- He's already called Ceraun as well as one other of my references that he asked to have. Don't know if he's contacted the other two yet.
- Still don't know what benefits we're talking about (training?)
- Have not had an interview with the company at all
I'm still leaning very heavily toward QSI, but the lack of communication really bothers me. Synergy sounds very cool, but they seem to be ahead of the game in searching for opportunities for me, mostly because he's asking more questions about my background. I guess I just find it weird that QSI hasn't asked for a single reference yet.
Well, it's only eight o'clock. We'll see if I get a call from anyone.

I shaved off my beard last night back down to my old goatee. With the recent self-evaluating events in my life, I realized that the only reason I grew a beard was so that I resembled my father and the rest of the men in my family. My father and both of his brothers have all had beards for most of their life (only since they've gotten older have they dropped back down to a moustache; Dad still has his though).
I'm done trying to fit in with the family. I need to be me. The goatee is me, and was in the past. I missed it. Wifey likes it too. Both of those are much better reasons to keep it than the reasons behind keeping the beard.

And thus begins the lying to my mother.
- So, how was the wedding?
- Oh, fine. Was very nice.
- You're brother is now in the club now huh?
- Yup
- And how was your stepmother.
- Slutty as usual. Okay, slutty and leathery. <laugh>
And after that it all just faded away. Never had to give any details about how shitty I feel...
