Reporters Wanted! (WoW Stratics Post):Reponses
From my brain
Do you enjoy following the MMORPG industry? Are you a leader that knows how to get things done? Are you a talented writer with something to say to the community?
If so, then the Stratics Central Team is just the place for you!
Here's a few attributes that would be handy to have in your pocket to help in your pursuit:
- Passionate about the massively multiplayer online gaming industry
- A fair knowledge of basic HTML
- Able to write in fluent English and demonstrate proper grammar
- A self-starter who can tackle a task and see it through to completion
- Ability to write and revise your own work
To get started in this extremely rewarding volunteer position with the Stratics Central Staff, please complete the following to help us to get to know you better:
1. What would you like to do as a Stratics Central Staff Member?
- My skills and interests lay in the communities generated by on-line gaming. I'm fascinated by the ways that games enable high school kids and 45 year old stay-at-home-moms become close friends. In that light, I'd like to work wherever I could interview the communities that spring up through the gaming world.
2. What is the main reason you would like to join the Stratics Central Team?
- A need a creative outlet by whatever vehicle I can find. I work best under an external deadline, because without it I find myself stalling and wandering aimlessly about the project.
3. Please tell us about your online gaming history.
- My online gaming experience started with (and continues) only with World of Warcraft. I completely avoided anything to do with the MMO industry as I didn't want to be "one of those people", the ones who never see their family because they play "that damn game". After starting in WoW, I eventually found a fantastic community in the game, and worked my up the ranks of leadership over a two year span. In just the past week, I became guild leader of a 180 person guild.
4. What game are you currently playing. What do you enjoy most/least about it?
- This will be more of a summary than anything new. World of Warcraft, and if it's not obvious, it's the community. From the pillars of the server who are always out in the wilderness helping others, down to the lowest scum of the realm constantly berating others by trolling the forums, I love it. The shear diversity amazes me. As for what I like least? That has to be those who are so fixed in how they like to play the game, that they can't conceive someone enjoying a different style.
5. What is your experience with online media?
- By day, I am a database developer, so while reports are running, I read a lot of online media. I am also an avid blogger (website is above), maintaining my own Wiki site purely to hold the contents of my head in a digital format. I also occasionally produce small article/guides for my guildmates, hosted on our guild website.
6. What is your experience with forum administration or moderation?
- Again, as I have a fair amount of free time throughout the day, I am a forum addict. Ever since I've been an officer in our guild, I've unofficially taken up the role of forum moderator. Resizing images, removing inappropriate images/posts, marking posts as private/guild only, etc. This has been for just over a year and a half.
7. Assume you are standing atop a hill, viewing the valley below. What do you see?
- My enemies crushed and driven before me, and sounds of the lamentation of their women echoing from the hillsides. Wait, there aren't that many hills on the steppes, what am I talking about?
8. You have just barely escaped a battle with a magical monster...luckily, with your life still intact. Describe the experience and how you feel.
- My heartbeat pounds in my ears. My eyes play tricks with my head as the shadows morph into one horror after another. I collapse against the wall. My hand finally weakens, my weapon clangs the floor, but my nerves are so shot that I'm barely startled by the sound. If it comes for me, I know I have nothing left, so there is no use in trying to stay awake. Even as I slide down to the ground, the darkness of sleep takes me.
9. Correct any spelling or grammatical errors you find.
- (left that out...silly here)
10. Describe your time availability to invest with Stratics Central.
- I could reasonably devote one to two hours a day depending on what assignments I would be assigned.
