2010

Me 23:23, 2 September 2010 (EDT)

I really don't have a whole lot of brain cells this week, mostly because the start of this new term is kicking my ass. An hour long class, and then five hours of kitchen, followed by a 90 degree+ half hour ride home completely exhausts me. Then, fight with the kids to do homework, and then relax (?) before bed. I think I've seen Wifey a couple times when it hasn't revolved around yelling at the kids.

Anyway, I talked to Chef S today as he came in to the school for another meeting. Gave him the complete run-down on the way I'm taking a break from school, and then going back in March. He's going to contact Chef F in Italy and make sure everything is cool still. He doubts there will be an issue, but he wants to check.

The thing is this: what I may have to do to get over there may be simpler than getting a visa. Apparently the easiest way to get over is to register for an Italian language course. One of those "Learn the language abroad!" kind of things. That gets you a nice piece of paper and then you have a class to go to a couple times a week (or, don't go, your choice). The paper is what matters though as that gets you a blind eye from the government types and lets you stay free and clear...unless they pay you under the table (which is perfectly plausible).

Also, I found that my accommodations are going to be right next to the Vatican, and while I knew room and board were provided, I didn't realize it was all three meals in the day. I'm pretty stoked about that honestly. Now, I just need to research the language course.

Mind you, in the next week, I don't know if that's gonna happen. Nana is very sick. Pancreatic cancer. Talked to dad last Sunday, and he said she was bad. Tonight, he said she pretty much doesn't have any idea who's around her with all the morphine she's on. I may take this long weekend to go up and be with the family. Or, as Dad said, "It's up to you: you can of course come up, but once things happen, you'll just end up coming up again."

This is not going to be a good week.

2008

Yesterday I referred to Man Day.

S from church came over after calling me on Saturday about wanting to do Cheesy Movie Night. We've been talking about doing this for months, and with Wifey and the kids gone, this was the perfect time to do it. We'd joked about making chili recently, and having just purchased the half-a-cow, I donated the meat, he got everything else.

  • Six pounds of ground beef
  • One large white onion
  • Half of a red onion (had in the fridge, what the hell)
  • One Vidalia onion
  • Two jalapenos from my garden (freshly plucked literally right before cooking)
  • One banana pepper (also found in the garden to be ripe)
  • One zomghotchilipeppper that our priest's wife accidentally grew (the tag had said sweet bell...but the fruit she got was definitely not a bell, and they don't do spicy)
  • One jar of decent salsa
  • 2-3 T Tastefully Simple Wahoo! Chili Powder (it's seasonal mind you so you you might not always find it)
  • Several cans of various beans
  • Several cans of diced tomatoes

There was enough chili in that big green pot of mine to feed 10 people. How many guys came over? Me, S from church and Ceraun. We can eat a lot, just not THAT much.

On the screen for the evening were the following:

"War in Space" was pure cheese; 1970's space "drama" from Japan with 1960's Dr. Who level special effects. Wow. Just wow. Great thing to watch while eating a big bowl of man-chili.

Space Truckers is one of Denis Hopper's most underrated films. Who am I kidding? This film had so many B-Movie actors that it was just awe-inspiring to see them all in one place. Also, Debi Mazar is hot as hell in nothing but her underwear. Now, if she would just not talk, we'd be set (he went there, didn't he?).

Now, then the highlight of the night though has got to be Undead. Ho-ly-crap. That movie was hysterical. Comets. Undead. Blood. Acid rain. Crazy nutcase with lots of guns. More undead. More blood. More acid rain. Then, it gets weird. If you can get a copy of this movie, watch it. Loved it.

By 11pm, I kicked the guys out. I'd been awake since 7:30, and so I was beat. Well, kind of. I popped in game for a bit, and ended up playing for an hour before I passed out.

All in all, between a good Kara run Friday, a fun Saturday afternoon doing nothing with the guild, Man Day and Cheesy Movie Night with the guys, and all-day WoW yesterday and this was a pretty good weekend. Gotta prep for Scouts tonight, and then an evening of running an instance with my officers to have a good meeting and it's still a rockin' bachelor week.

Just got of the phone with Wifey and then TheBoy. As was planned, they stopped off and spent Sunday with FIL's brother. Was a good visit.

They got in to Myrtle Beach OK last night around 7pm, and by the time they got the camper all set up, it was bed time. Wifey said that around 1am she woke up with a start and realized she'd never called me. I thanked her for not calling at that very moment.  :)

This kinda leads into today. While being able to drive the van in rather than my car lowered my morning stress level, not having TheBoy and/or Princess ride me out to the car. Wasn't so much of an issue over the weekend, but that's definitely something missing from today.

And for my next act, I shall perform something called "The Disappearance of Hope".

What do you expect after three months? An approval?

I picked the wrong day (yesterday) to forget to take my meds.

With the above was:

I'm sorry the buyers loan will be done away with at the end of September and the buyer needs to find a home to buy now. No way would countrywide be dependable.
Please sign and fax to me at 921-8713
Sincerely RealtorLady

I just replied:

Just sent.
Where do we go from here? Is there any worth to even dropping the price further and praying for another buyer or are we just going to have to suck it up and deal with the foreclosure? I know you were angry last week and ready to call heaven (and regulation boards) down on Countrywide's shoulders, but how likely is that kind of thing really to happen before we're foreclosed?
You've done everything you could have thus far RealtorLady. We don't blame you for any of it. I don't know there is anyone who really could have done anything else. You've stayed in contact with everyone you could have.
Let me know what your thoughts are from this point.
Thanks (for everything),
Me.

"I'm still in it. I'm not letting go. I'm madder than...than...anything. I am going to find a resolution to this for you."

D-Day...or in this case F-Day is October 26. That's the day when the Sheriff's sale kicks off. She let loose today (again) on some poor barely more than minimum wage CSR. She said she either scared the lady or she got through to her as she never went into the usual spiel. Then, she passed her on to the supervisor...which of course was only voicemail. No calls back. They never do.

I'm just incredibly numb at this point. Not angry. Not sad. Not really anything. Sure, I punched one of the oak doors at the office. Sure I've welled up a bit like I was watching a Hallmark Movie of the Week. All of it though has been half-hearted and nothing is full-on.

She gave me a number to call and made sure I had our account number so I can do some of my own ranting. I may just do that. She said not to curse at anyone though because you don't want that. Let 'em have hell, but do it with clean language I guess.

Should I be giving them heck then?

Apparently, not everyone can see all the new-nifty admin settings. Seems like only the admin can see this, but you common folk cannot.

I (Cap'n) look into...

Dear Mrs. Santa

Daddy has been REALLY good this year (or he promised to be for the rest of the year). If he promises to take out the trash, clean up the kitchen after cooking, and pleasuring you repeatedly after giving you a complete body massage.

Can't he please have THIS?

2003

Me 00:26, 02, September 2003 (EDT)

The fit has seriously hit the shan tonight.

My plan tonight:

  • Go into work.
  • Suck down an hour or so of OT - on a holiday rate mind you - and then go home. (My boss said that the sysops were bound to "change something" so I had to go in and test our reports.)
  • Stop off and check some prices for a catering gig this weekend, so I have a short list in my pocket to do that.
  • Maybe get home by 11ish and play a little StarCraft (to refresh my skills) so Zej and I can eventually play on-line against each other.

However, Zej and I are currently sitting here at work, and may be here for LOOOOOOOONG time. You see, the mainframe operations database had gotten an overhaul (new processors and expanded hard-drives) this weekend. In addition, the LAN guys also decided that this would be a GREAT time to rewire the universe.

So, I got a call today around 11AM from the manager-on-duty for Labor Day. She said there was an ugly problem with some reports.

I asked, "Why are you running reports? The LAN guys are doing stuff betweeen 8 and 6 all day."

She replied, "The LAN guys are done, so we thought we'd run some reports. Do you need to talk to one of them?"

Thinking further then on the error she received (ODBC call failed for you techies) I realized the LAN guys wouldn't help. "I'll need to talk to one of the AS400 sysops."

She then said she'd find one and have them call me.

No call. All day. I figured, "Ah, the LAN guys said, 'Why are you doing anything? We're not done yet!'" and she then said, "Ooops!" and didn't call me back.

So, I came in - at the time I was planning on - around 9PMish. I had read Zej's blog beforehand and called him on the way saying, "Hey, I hear you're bored. At least we can have a smoke break to blow some time."

He then related that TheEvilOne had been calling in - panicked mind you - because some report had blown up. Zej said it sounded like and Access problem. I said, "Hey, at least now I'll have something legitimate to log a full hour on."

That's probably what fucked us both over.

I get in, and it turns out that when the data from the old system boxes got passed over to the new system boxes.......the file authorities never came over.

I'm here as an odd combination of moral support and possible conscription should LOTS AND LOTS of manual entry is needed. Calls have been made to BigBrother Inc. - priority one and all.

Here we are, bent over with a firm grasp around our ankles.

I love overtime.
